The territory of Caprese Michelangelo is crossed by the Singerna stream, a right tributary of the Tiber river and by a series of other streams and ditches that run through the valley floors.
The Singerna originates on Mount Calvano (1254 m.a.s.l.) and runs through the town of Caprese in the middle of its course, often squeezed between abundant vegetation, while the terminal stretch is incorporated by the Montedoglio artificial lake. The bottom is composed of a bed of rocks and gravel while the surrounding vegetation, mainly shrubs, alternates with vast areas of meadows and agricultural crops. The flow of water varies a lot during the year and the Singerna must have represented a problem for the community of Caprese in the winter months in the previous centuries, due to the frequent overflows which made it difficult to build on the banks and to construct bridges.
