SHOWS
Wednesday 2 December, 9.00 pm – “Accabadora” – Anna Della Rosa
- Based on the novel by Michela Murgia. Published by Giulio Einaudi Editore. Adapted for the stage by Carlotta Corradi. Directed by Veronica Cruciani. Produced by Savà Produzioni Creative
- The celebrated novel has been adapted into a monologue, recounting the story from the perspective of Maria, who, at the age of six, was entrusted to Bonaria Urrai, a seamstress who lives alone and who, on occasion, acts as an ‘accabadora’ (helping those on their deathbeds to die). Maria grows up admiring this new mother, who is more cultured and attentive than her previous one, until the day she discovers her secret history; it is then that she flees to the mainland to start a new life and forget the past, but a few years later she returns to her deathbed
Monday 21 December, 9.00 pm – ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ – Lucia Poli, Giorgio Lupano, Maria Alberta Navello, Luigi Tabita
- By Oscar Wilde. Translated by Masolino D’Amico with Giulia Paoletti, Bruno Crucitti, Gloria Sapio and Riccardo Feola. Directed by Geppy Gleijeses. Produced by Dear Friends, ArtistiAssociati – Theatre Production Centre
- The Importance of Being Earnest, the last of the seven plays written by Oscar Wilde, premiered in London in February 1895 and was an immediate success. However, the scandal that soon engulfed the author – who was publicly accused of sodomy – led to its immediate suspension, and it was not performed again whilst Wilde was still alive. When the play returned to the stage, it had no difficulty in reaffirming its merit. A perfectly crafted text, brimming with scathing one-liners, brilliant dialogue, paradoxes and the nonsense typical of Wilde’s style. The play is a critique of Victorian society with its rigid social constraints, hypocrisy, propriety, the pursuit of appearances and formal moralism. A great strength of the production staged by Geppy Gleijeses lies precisely in its commitment to respecting the framework established by Wilde himself.
Thursday 14 January, 9.00 pm – “Three Variations on Life” – Ugo Dighero, Mariangeles Torres
- By Yasmina Reza, starring Alberto Giusta and Laura Mazzi. Directed by Luigi Saravo. Co-produced by CMC/Nidodiragno/Centro Teatrale Bresciano/Fondazione Atlantide/Teatro Stabile di Verona/Artisti Associati
- An evening amongst friends: four people and a truth that changes depending on who tells it. Amidst irony, tension and secrets, the same evening is relived three times, from different perspectives. A brilliant theatrical piece by Yasmina Reza on relationships, appearances and the relativity of truth.
Thursday 4 February, 9.00 pm – “Terzo tempo” – Lucia Vasini, Paolo Hendel, Viola Lucio, Marco Mavaracchio
- By Lidia Ravera, loosely based on the novel of the same name, published by Bompiani. Adapted for the stage by Lidia Ravera and Emanuela Giordano. Directed and lighting design by Emanuela Giordano. Produced by Teatro Franco Parenti/Agidi
- Adapted from Lidia Ravera’s novel, Terzo Tempo is an explosion of wit and humanity, where humour does not trivialise but illuminates. Not the usual story of a middle-class couple in crisis, but a disarming and ironic ode to the art of growing old with one’s desires intact and one’s gaze fixed on the future. Playing this far from conventional couple are two outstanding figures of Italian comedy theatre, Lucia Vasini and Paolo Hendel, directed here by Emanuela Giordano. A tender and unsettling comedy, peppered with offbeat jokes and a vital melancholy, entrusted to performers capable of blending irony and fragility, poetry and clumsiness, bringing to life deeply human, contradictory and recognisable characters.
Tuesday 23 February, 9.00 pm – “Man, Beast and Virtue” – Vanessa Gravina, Max Malatesta, Nicola Rignanese
- By Luigi Pirandello. Adapted and directed by Roberto Valerio. Produced by Teatri di Pistoia Centro di Produzione Teatrale in collaboration with Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine
- *The Man, the Beast and Virtue* is perhaps Pirandello’s most unconventional play: grotesque, dreamlike, mad. A strangely amusing comedy, full of comical situations, yet one in which the apparent simplicity of the classic love triangle (husband, wife, lover) conceals powerful themes that remain relevant today. Against a dreamlike backdrop, the characters move as if suspended in an indefinite time, dreamlike in the manner of *Six Characters* or *It Is Not Known How*: for in Pirandello’s work, dreams often reveal more than reality, or reality often coincides with dreams.
Wednesday 10 March, 9.00 pm – “Bandiera” – Antonella Attili, Giancarlo Commare, Ania Rizzi Bogdan
- Concept and dramaturgy by Lucia Franchi and Luca Ricci; set design by Rosita Vallefuoco. Directed by Luca Ricci. Produced by CapoTrave and Infinito
- Chainsaw in hand, a young man bursts into the Prime Minister’s house and takes his wife and their Latvian housekeeper hostage. Although the situation includes magical and messianic elements, everything unfolds in an everyday atmosphere.
Tuesday 23 March, 9.00 pm – “Nel blu: holding so much happiness in my arms” – Mario Perrotta
- A show by Mario Perrotta. Arrangements by Vanni Crociani, Massimo Marches, Giuseppe Franchellucci and Mario Perrotta. Vanni Crociani on piano and accordion. Massimo Marches on guitars. Giuseppe Franchellucci on cello. Produced by Permar Compagnia Mario Perrotta/Emilia Romagna Teatro ERT-Teatro Nazionale
- A project dedicated to “happiness”, drawing inspiration from the words, music and life of the famous singer-songwriter Domenico Modugno, who, according to Mario Perrotta, fully embodies this sentiment. An opportunity to reflect on how difficult it is today to aspire to happiness, unlike during the economic boom era when there was a desire to dream of a better future.
Tuesday 6 April, 9.00 pm – “Is life beautiful? No, it’s a type: a semi-serious reflection on happiness in our times” – Paola Minaccioni
- By Paola Minaccioni. Produced by Gli Ipocriti – Melina Balsamo
- We spend our lives chasing and copying models of happiness that do not belong to us, according to which perfection, the pursuit of predefined, standardising aesthetic ideals, and goals that are the same for everyone – and only the achievement of these – make us worthy of the happiness we so long for. But who said so? Is life beautiful? No, *La vita è bella* is a semi-serious line of reasoning that helps us step off the bandwagon of conformism and aims to open our eyes to the countless paths we can take in the search for our own happiness.
