A New Interpretation of Sassetta’s Polyptych | Celebrations to Mark the 800th Anniversary of the Death of St Francis
Friday 23 October, 10.30 am – Church of St Francis
In the year marking the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis of Assisi, Sansepolcro is dedicating a significant event to one of the most important works in its artistic history: the Sassetta Polyptych
The Piero della Francesca Foundation is organising the event ‘A New Interpretation of the Sassetta Polyptych’, curated by Professor Machtelt Brüggen Israëls, lecturer in Art History at the University of Amsterdam
A valuable opportunity to rediscover the artistic, historical and spiritual value of a masterpiece deeply linked to our town and to the Franciscan tradition, through the perspective and research of an authoritative art historian
An event that brings together art, faith and memory, inviting us to reflect on a cultural heritage that continues to tell the story and define the identity of Sansepolcro
The initiative is organised in collaboration with the Municipality of Sansepolcro, the Parish of St John the Evangelist, and the Committee for the celebrations marking the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis, with the support of the Region of Tuscany
