Nature, History and Trails | The new Pieve Santo Stefano Hiking Park

In the heart of the Tuscan Valtiberina, a network of trails is taking shape for hikers, families and outdoor enthusiasts. A project that combines environmental conservation with slow tourism, just a stone’s throw from the Alpe della Luna and the historic ‘Vie dello Spirito’

Pieve Santo Stefano reaffirms its status as a centre of history and unspoilt nature. The new Pieve Santo Stefano Hiking Park is being officially unveiled today – an ambitious green initiative designed to connect residents and visitors with the extraordinary landscape and historical heritage of the Tuscan Apennines

The project, carried out by the Tourist Office and the Proloco Association, was conceived with the aim of organising a network of trails winding through the municipal area, offering routes suitable for all types of walkers: from expert high-altitude trekkers to cycling enthusiasts, right through to families seeking relaxing walks amidst the local biodiversity

THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE HIKING PARK

The area around Pieve Santo Stefano is a key hub for hiking in Central Italy. The new park allows visitors to safely explore natural and spiritual destinations of the very highest calibre:
  • The link to the Alpe della Luna/Gothic Line Nature Reserve: one of the most fascinating areas of the Apennines, ideal for hiking and backpacking adventures

  • Historical and scenic routes: the most notable of these is the famous nature trail leading to the ancient Hermitage of Cerbaiolo, a route of around 12 km set amidst lush greenery, offering a breathtaking view of the valley from the ‘Sassi Neri’ viewpoint

  • Facilities and hospitality: the routes benefit from newly installed, customised signposting, a dedicated app (Mowi Bike), well-equipped rest areas and collaboration with strategic support points offering refreshments and overnight accommodation for walkers, such as the historic Pian della Capanna mountain refuge

PARK LUPO ALBERTO

Educational Play Park: Italy’s first trail park entirely dedicated to the famous Blue Wolf, created by Silver. This unique space offers families, children and schools an unforgettable immersive experience, combining environmental education, play and the great tradition of Italian comics
