A mountain characterized by the presence of woods of considerable naturalistic interest well preserved until mainly  thanks to the harsh morphology of the area

Due to the fragility of the ecosystem, the visit is  allowed only with the Official Guides of the Natural Reserves.
Bosco di Montalto (1060 m asl) is located a few kilometers from Pieve Santo Stefano , along the ridge that connects Poggio delle Calbane with the Via Maggio Pass.
The Reserve protects the entire northern slope of Montalto covered by woods of considerable naturalistic interest that have been preserved thanks to the rugged morphology of the relief, which has limited its exploitation.
In less than 200 meters of altitude there are types of forest including beech woods and mixed woods of maple, lime, Turkey oak and hornbeam. The reserve is almost completely wooded and a refuge for mammals (roe deer, wild boar, porcupine, badger) and birds (buzzard, honey buzzard) that move to the surrounding fields to feed.

How to access:

The reserve is bordered by the CAI path n. 2 which connects the Via Maggio Pass to Pieve Santo Stefano but, given the particular value of the forest and the fragility of the ecosystem, the visit is only allowed with the Official Guides of the Natural Reserves and it is therefore necessary to contact the Tourist Office of Sansepolcro.
