Opening of “Faust’s Archive”

On September 26, 2026, Pieve Santo Stefano will inaugurate “Faust’s Archive” a new space dedicated to the work and creative legacy of Faust Cardinali, an Italian-French artist whose practice, spanning over forty years, encompasses sculpture, painting, contemporary jewelry, installation, and performance, all imbued with a radical, material, and deeply symbolic vision.
 
The arrival of the Faust Cardinali Archive is part of a cultural history that spans centuries. Pieve Santo Stefano, a land of ancient Etruscan and Roman settlements, preserves evidence of the Via Ariminensis and the Roman bridges over the Tiber. During the Renaissance, Pieve was a place of learning for prominent figures such as Giulio de’ Medici, the future Pope Clement VII, and is home to a glazed terracotta work attributed to Andrea della Robbia. Pieve was the birthplace of notable figures such as Stefano Bardini, a renowned antiquarian and collector, and Amintore Fanfani, a statesman and economic historian. In the 20th century, thanks to Saverio Tutino, it became a cultural center unique in Europe with the National Diary Archive.
 
Today, this tradition is being revitalized with the arrival of an international artist: Faust Cardinali, who brings his exploration of matter, the body, and memory to Pieve, broadening the region’s perspective toward the present and the future.
