Propitiatory Dinner at the Palio dei Rioni | Porta Fiorentina District
 
Thursday 3 September – Dinner along the main street on the Porta Fiorentina side
 
“Hear ye, hear ye, people of Porta Fiorentina,
for September calls to us with a mischievous voice:
choose your finery, polish your rings,
for this propitious night calls for rebellious hearts.
Comb your hair, spruce yourselves up properly,
for Jupiter’s day brings fortune and chains:
chains of laughter, wine and glory,
so that the Palio may once more write history.
And whilst we proudly gather in the street,
Porta Romana yawns with little energy:
their crossbowmen are weary, their aim a bit off…
it seems they’re shooting at random, just like Porta Romana!
We, on the other hand, are ready, strong and confident,
amidst banners, drums and heartfelt toasts:
let the Borgo know, without a shadow of a doubt,
who truly wins… and who’s just like those from Gubbio.
So, Fiorentina, let’s raise our voices,
for the Palio awaits us, demanding our fiercest effort:
and to the Romans, with grace and irony,
let’s send a smile… and a touch of envy!"
